Nestled on the slopes of fertile Devon, near the coast at Beeson, our WINTER WHEAT has wittnessed wild storms, grey blue ocean coloured clouds watering the earth seemingly endlessly, kneading the soil with hail, covering it in tiny frosty ice crystals and then warming it softly in salt glittering sunshine giving birth to the tiny wheatgrass shafts that are working their way through this well weathered Devonian Earth , eager to meet the light, strong in stalk, root and blood…the chlorophyll of plants, which is what humans and animals alike throughout history are craving for after the ending of winter/ beginning of every spring.
The grass’s blood carries a multitude of life giving, positive growth stimulating minerals and vitamins much needed in a healthy diet especially these days, particularly at that time of year when most other vegetables and fruits are still waking up from their winter’s slumber.
Exceptionally high amounts of Zinc, Manganese, Vitamin E, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6 with only 4ml reaching over a 1000% of an adults daily recommended intake, and with Iron, Copper, Vitamin A and Vitamin K around 50 to 100%.
WHEATGRASS JUICE is powerful, a little goes a long way. From 2mg for adult beginners to 4mg on a regular, daily basis, naturally from spring to end of summer.
There is a huge difference between FIELD GROWN WHEATGRASS and tray grown wheatgrass. Starting with the exposure to above mentionned nature’s forces, the seed of field grown wheat develops freely choosing it’s size, time and space but beyond that it has received such pure, natural energy and attention which is deeply engrained in each harvested plant, and therefore it’s juice pulses with life force..and in turn makes us pulse when we consume it…the fresher the better. Field Grown Wheatgrass tastes pure, almost sweet. The taste of tray grown wheatgrass is very bitter….this is often explained by the amount of mould that sits in the soil and it’s surface of tray grown wheatgrass and possibly carried into the juice. There is often a feeling of nausea associated with wheatgrass juice, but only from that of tray grown Wheatgrass, very likely due to the mould content and maybe the restricted habitat of the plant. Maybe it is bitter for being so enclosed????
At The Culinary Cauldron we harvest the grass with old fashioned scythes and sickles, juice it and freeze it within a day.
